Mueller

Modern Neighborhood Only Miles from Campus

Mueller is home to the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport so if you have travels plans anytime soon…wait, the Mueller airport closed in 1999 when the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport opened! The Mueller area, now, is a Planned Unit Development project that began when the airport closed – with the intention of creating a mixed-use and pedestrian-oriented community.

While lots of parents love to raise their kiddies in Mueller, young singles and professionals also love what Mueller has to offer. There are many condominium dwellings throughout the development that sit just on top of shops, entertainment venues and restaurants. In some ways, the Mueller development could be compared to The Domain – but with more grass. If you enjoy the opportunity of exciting night life and fresh air, Mueller might just be right for you!

Location

Lifestyle

As mentioned earlier, the Mueller development could be compared to The Domain in North Austin because of the luxury apartments that are complimented by all of the retail shopping and restaurants that rests just below, and around. As this area continues to develop and expand, as it still is, with more urbanity and crafted density – more entertainment venues are sure to ensue.

To date, there are all kinds of shops that cater to the families that reside nearby and also younger individuals. There are dozens of shops including Rue 21, Bed Bath & Beyond, The Children’s Place, Old Navy, Marshalls as well as the more functional stores such as H-E-B, Best Buy, Staples, Home Depot and PetSmart. Mueller also has a location of the Dell Children’s Hospital, very convenient for family needs.

If you could skip the retail for the munchies, there is somewhere to satisfy every palate. To the 51st St side, places such as Tiff’s Treat (freshly baked cookies), Jamba Juice, The Halal Corner, and la Madeleine French Café can be found. Just down Aldrich Street you will see more unique dining such as the Stella Public House, BD Riley’s Irish Pub, L’Oca d’Oro and Colleen’s Kitchen. And for dessert, Halcyon Coffee, Lady Quackenbush’s Cakery, or Lick Honest Ice Cream can scratch your itch. It is also worth mentioning that there is the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema right on Aldrich, and it is also the host to Barrol O’Fun – a carnival themed hall that has family-friendly entertainment 4pm-8pm (M-F), and adult entertainment from 8pm-11pm (M-F) – see website for extended weekend hours.

For casual lunch, visit the Browning Hangar where Mueller Trailer Eats is located – a few trailers are parked here and offer options from juices to coffee to vegetarian meals to burgers and pizza. Grab your fix at Compass Coffee, Conscious Cravings serving vegetarian wraps, Veracruz All Natural Food Truck serving authentic tacos, Gravy ATX serving gravy and biscuits or The Stonehouse Wood Fire Grill serving all sorts of items.

Concerning the kids – the Thinkery is a children’s museum…reimagined. The Thinkery is all about hand-on learning for children in various disciplines. They offer many workshops, programs and exhibits oriented towards children’s development. If you don’t have any kids in your life, adults are still welcome to visit as it’s an all-around innovative experience! The Mueller Lake Park has an extra fancy playscape that is colorful and has structures to climb, swing and play on! Mueller is also host to the AISD Performing Arts center where schools all over the area come to do their major performances; this has historically included orchestra concerts by middle and high schools, dance recitals, and even the McCallum Fine Arts fashion shows.

Although it’s technically outside of Mueller, the Morris Williams Gold Course is just on the outskirts across from Manor Road and offers grassy green hills, just how a golf course should be.

Check out the Texas Farmer’s Market at Mueller on Sundays 10am-2pm and Wednesdays 5pm-8pm at the Browning Hangar – this wonderful event is a great way to support local business and learn about products that you’ve never seen before! Some of the Sunday vendors include Buddha’s Brew Kombucha, Elly’s Sweet Shop, Round Rock Honey, Hemp 360, Gourmet Texas Pasta, Srsly Chocolate, and The Vinegar Joint — see more. Some of the Wednesday vendors include Candles and Company, FOND Bone Broth, Sage and Opal, Monarch Herbs with more here. Remember to bring your reusable bag and take a date for a fun outing…or take yourself on a date and buy something luxurious!
