West Campus

Student oriented neighborhood adjacent to the UT Campus

Where the apartments are rising, and the music is pounding. West Campus (also known by locals as Wampus) is a Central Austin neighborhood located just west of Guadalupe Street (The Drag) directly across from the University of Texas at Austin Campus. West Campus is a hotbed for college students and young adults, but the neighborhood is a collage of the historic and the contemporary: with new bars, restaurants, and apartments nestled between historic mansions and State-protected museums.

The West Campus area is most in alignment with what you might think of as the ‘college experience’ of any nearby neighborhood to UT. Since most of UT’s Greek organizations inhabit this neighborhood, it is vibing with parties and social events all year long. With only 18% of all undergraduates living on campus, and less than 70% of freshman living on campus – West Campus is the closest you can get to the University while being a major social hub for college kids.

Location

West Campus is one of the most walkable neighborhoods around the UT Austin Campus.  West Campus has easy walking access to the university and several bus routes giving you access to the rest of Austin.

Lifestyle

West Campus is one of the most densely populated areas in Austin. Because the majority of the nearly 20,000 residents of West Campus are college students, the entertainment in the area is largely targeted toward this demographic of people. There are dozens of shops, bars, and restaurants along Guadalupe Street—as various as the eclectic clientele of West Campus—that make up the famous Drag. Whether you need a quick bite from In ‘N’ Out Burger or Qdoba Mexican Eats, or are looking to sit-down and chow-down with some buddies at Kerbey Lane Café, you’re sure to be satisfied.

During the day, West Campus is full of people shopping at Urban Outfitters, The UT Co-op, or Tyler’s and eating at the local restaurants (try Fricano’s Deli!). And at night, the bars and hookah lounges fill with people ready to unwind after a long day of class and work. To accommodate for the unpredictable sleeping and eating schedules of their largely student clientele, many of the restaurants and businesses in West Campus are open very late—if not 24 hours a day (Kerbey’s famous queso tastes even yummier after midnight!). If you’re in need of snacks– West Campus Market on 22nd, Orange Market on 25th, or Bodega on Rio on 21st can assist, or if you’re needing more grocery-type items, Fresh Plus on 24th is the go-to.

For late night fun in West Campus, be sure to stop by Love Goat, Hole in the Wall, Cain & Abel’s, Kasbah Hookah Lounge, or Pluckers! There are daily specials every day of the week.

With 43 fraternities and 28 sororities belonging to UT Austin, West Campus is home to over fifty Greek organizations, and a dozen Co-ops—organized by the Inter-Co-operative Council (ICC) such as House of Commons and Helios — and many more of the 1,100+ student organizations due to its proximity to campus. There are hoppin’ parties year-round as holidays occur (you don’t want to miss the Halloween crowds). During the Spring semester, the neighborhood comes to life with parties during RoundUp, a Greek hosted weekend of crawfish, concerts and wearing all the neon you own. In recent years, West Campus has hosted Juicy J, 2 Chainz, A$AP Ferg, Migos, Waka Flocka Flame, Mike Jones, Machine Gun Kelly, Yin Yang Twins, and many more popular names.

West Campus offers the height of the ‘college experience’ with plenty of nightlife and socializing. If you’re looking to be in midst of the action, West Campus has it all.
